I did learn some German in my early years in Prague but since I left to live in UK many years ago it has become very rusty. I will understand any replies in German though 
.I collect shorter edge weapons such as bayonets, cutlasses, short swords, hangers and sidearms, and have recently acquired what looks like a shortened German cavalry sabre, as shown in the pictures. I am no expert on sabres but am familiar with the shape of the hilt and guard. But the two unusual features (to me) are that:
1. there are no langets on the cross-guard, and
2. the 'ear' on the backstrap is not pierced with a rivet.
The nearest model I could find on the internet is the Ulanen Säbel M1873. These were apparently handed down to the mounted Supply Units in 1889 & shortened in 1908. Is this maybe one of the shortened ones? Anyway, even that model does not quite satisfy the 'no rivet' requirement and the only model that does that is in the Eickhorn catalogue 1901 on your site as the Kindersäbel 286 and 287 but that would of course be a lot smaller than mine.
I hope I am right at least in identifying the only mark that appears twice on the weapon, also shown in one of the pictures, as the ownership/acceptance mark JR for King Johann of Sachsen??
Can anybody advise me what I have please? Here are my measurements: blade length 542 mm, 30mm blade width, 415mm fullers, 685mm overall.
